As we age, the layers of the skin start losing collagen and elastin fibres that leads to wrinkling and sagging of the skin! Unhealthy diet, smoke and pollution, sun exposure are some of the culprits that aggravate the skin related problems. Almonds- Almonds are a rich source of vitamin E. It acts like antioxidant which helps protect skin cells from the Ultra violet rays.

Yogurt- It is good for overall health, improves bowel movement and improves appetite. Daily intake of yogurt makes skin and hair beautiful and smoother.

Dark Chocolates – Dark chocolates contain high levels of flavonols, a potent type of antioxidant which reduces roughness in the skin and protects against sun damage. Cocoa hydrates the skin, making it firmer and supple.

Green Tea- Thanks to its storehouse of polyphenols, green tea is high on the list of skin-friendly beverages. It is rich in antioxidants and has anti-cancer properties. It is said to protect against skin cancer.

Water- Drinking about 3 - 4 liters of water daily keeps your body and skin hydrated, adding further glow to your skin. It also regulates the body temperature and improves digestion.

A Healthy Skin can be Attained with a Healthy Diet!

Today’s deskbound and stressful lifestyle, irregular sleep, chemicals & pollution have resulted in manifold skin problems such as premature aging, pimples, dark circles & dryness. A deficient diet, oily & spicy foods, excess consumption of tea, coffee and alcohol also aggravates such conditions. 

To treat the skin, people usually opt for harmful and expensive synthetic beauty care products that can lead to side effects. The application of these chemical products can further cause skin ailments such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, etc.

Fortunately, we are now becoming aware of the disadvantages of synthetic cosmetic products and opting for herbal alternatives which have proved to be safe, economic & effective without causing any side effects.   • Mix ½ tsp of honey in equal amounts of milk and apply the same for glowing skin.
  • Make a paste of 1 tbsp orange peel powder with yogurt and rub it on face in circular motions. Rinse off with cold water. This treatment is beneficial in removing excess oil, exfoliate the skin as well as open blocked pores.
  • Mash a banana and apply the pack over the face and the neck for 15 minutes. It is a good moisturizer for the skin.
  • Add 1/4th tsp of lemon juice in a tbsp of aloe gel and administer to achieve a soft glowing skin.
  • Make a paste by mixing a tsp of red sandalwood powder in coconut milk. This formulation is an excellent tonic for the skin.
  • Prepare a mixture of 2 tbsp of tomato juice with ½ tsp of honey. Leave it on the face for 20 min and wash off. This natural remedy is a useful skin tonic.
  • Apply on the face a mixture of cabbage juice (1 tbsp), yogurt (1tsp) & 1 tsp of  honey. Wash with lukewarm water. This remedy is useful for skin tightening.
  • To tighten the skin massage the face with a paste prepared from apple and milk. Leave it on till it dries.
  • Make a paste by mixing rice flour in milk and apply over face and neck. Application of the same thrice weekly helps tighten the skin.
  • To get rid of acne, apply a paste of turmeric and neem leaves on the affected areas.
  • Regular application of a mixture of glycerin with lemon juice and rose water (all in equal amounts) helps reduce dark spots and imparts glow to the skin.
  • Grate a cucumber & add lemon juice to make a paste. Apply the same leave it till the pack gets dry. It is good for removing black spots on the skin.
  • Prepare a paste by mixing together 2 tsp of oatmeal with 3 tsp of yogurt, 2 tsp olive oil & a tsp of lemon juice. Topical application of this remedy treats acne prone skin quite well.  
  • To remove ugly marks left by acne, grate a potato & mix it in 2 tsp of milk to make a paste. Wash off when dry.

Treat Wrinkles with Natural Herbal Remedies!


Skin Wrinkles typically show up as we age! With aging process, the skin cells divide more slowly, and the dermis (inner layer of the skin) begins to thin. With aging, skin also loses its elasticity, is less able to retain moisture, oil-secreting glands are less efficient and the skin is slower to heal. Elastinand the collagen fibers (the major structural proteins in the skin), loosen and unravel, causing  depressions on the skin surface. All these factors contribute to the appearance of wrinkles. 

Unhealthy living, pollution, prolonged periods of stress & anxiety, inadequate sleep, improper diet and  lack of exercise further, can lead to premature signs of aging, the first being the wrinkles with a dull skin! To combat the problem of wrinkles, all you need to do is afford some time and use natural ingredients easily available in our kitchens. 
Let’s try out some of the natural remedies for managing wrinkles -

  • Take egg white and to it mix 2 tsp of glycerin and rose water. Apply the mixture on skin to get rid of wrinkles.
  • Take glycerin, lemon juice and rose water in equal amounts and apply this natural moisturizing lotion regularly before retiring to bed. It is beneficial in preventing early aging of the skin.
  • Mix a tbsp of cabbage juice to 1/2 tsp of yogurt & a tsp of honey. Apply the mixture over face & neck. Wash off as the pack dries.
  • Take 2 tsp of barley flour and make a paste with curd and a tbsp of tomato juice. Apply the same on face and neck and let it dry. Rinse and pat dry.
  • Apply a paste of rice flour with milk on the wrinkle prone skin for 15-20 min; rinse off with water. Follow this skin remedy thrice weekly.
  • Prepare a paste of apple with milk. Massage the same all over face and neck. Leave it for 15 min and wash off.
  • Add some milk to a tbsp of powdered almond & make it into a paste. Apply this as a pack over the face and the neck. Wash off as it dries.
Though these simple Natural remedies are an effective solution to skin wrinkles, taking adequate sleep, managing day to day stress, eating a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and alcohol consumption can be of great help in managing wrinkles. Generous intake of fruits, green vegetables, grains, cereals, milk and milk products is equally important. Drinking 3 to  4 liters of water daily flushes out wastes and other harmful substances out of the body, and thus helps maintain a well hydrated, healthy skin.
